Pre-Surgical Information

Often our pets are anxious about being left at the vet clinic for the day. We strive to make them as comfortable as possible while they stay with us. We do offer anti-anxiety medication so please don’t hesitate to inquire with us if you feel that your pet may benefit from this anti-anxiety protocol.

Please call the clinic to book in your pets procedure. Your drop off time will generally be between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and your pick up time is typically between 2:30 and 3:30 PM. We will call you when your pet is in recovery and give you a more precise discharge time.

There are forms that we require be filled out prior to your pets procedure. These forms can be completed online, however if you are unable to fill out the online versions, please be aware that you will need to complete them when you drop off your pet, so we ask that you allow for extra time to do so.

For your pets safety, fasting is required prior to sedation or anesthesia. Please do not feed your pet after 10PM the evening before the procedure and keep them fasted up until they are dropped off in the morning. If your pet requires medications, those can be given in a small treat or meatball of food the morning of the procedure. If your pet usually only eats in the morning, please feed them something the evening before the procedure (before 10PM) to avoid an extremely long fasted period. This is especially for cats or very young and/or small dogs. Water can be freely offered until your pet is dropped off.

Most ongoing medications should be given on their regular schedule prior to surgery. If you have any questions about this, please contact the office. If your pet is on any blood pressure or heart medications, please contact the office prior to the procedure for instructions pertaining to these medications.

An estimate will be emailed and/or shown to you at the time of drop off. Signatures are required for this paperwork. Please ask us prior to the procedure being performed if you have any questions about the charges involved.

Please be aware that late fees and cancellation fees will apply to last-minute changes or in situations where you miss your appointment without informing the office. We have booked Veterinarian surgical time for your appointment, and we are unlikely to be able to fill your time block without adequate notice. We require 48 hours notice if you are unable to make the appointment, or if you need to reschedule.

Most of our surgical procedures require a 2 week recovery period. During this time, there are exercise and mobility restrictions. Your dog must remain on leash at all times when outdoors, and cats must be contained indoors only. Dogs movement must also be restricted when inside (no running, jumping or playing). During this recovery period, there will be no swimming or bathing allowed. If you have any questions about the post-surgical recovery period for your pet, please reach out to the clinic.
